Primary effect, level I or II: Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, Strength. Level 4 can also add Regeneration I, or spend that slot on making the primary effect level II.
The base has to be solid. A hole you mined through the middle turns the beam off. Mixing iron and gold in the same pyramid is fine.
